ATI/AMD 5xxx 6xxx 7xxx 2xx 3xx Graphics Cards Framebuffer Personalities

ATI/AMD 5xxx 6xxx 7xxx Graphics Cards Framebuffer Personalities

Is there any software to test which frame buffer personality is the best or do you just have to go by eye?

I can confirm that the Aji personality works well with my HIS R9 280X OC edition. Flashed this card, it was initially a regular HIS 7970. Planning to also try Futomaki, Hamachi, and Junsai personalities should the card start to perform poorly.

Asus PQ321 4K running at 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz on OS X 10.10.2

Thanks for this info!

I have a weird issue.

I have an AMD HD6870.

Vendor ID: 0x1002
Device ID: 0x6738

Physical layout:

|__DVI 1__| /_HDMI_\ |_m/DP2_| |_m/DP1_|

|__DVI 2__|

I have 10.8.5

All my ports are recognized by default, but, only works 2 at the same time.

No matter what combination you do, only 2 outs work.

I had tried all personalities and the result is always the same, only 2 outputs works, 2 desktops.

How can I get 3 outs, and 3 desktops?

The AMD driver in 10.10 solves this issue. Yay!
I can't select any resolution over 2560x1440 in 10.10 :|

if you're having trouble with blank screens on dual or triple port configurations on 5xxx and 6xxx cards. You don't have to reconfigure anything.

To test an alternate framebuffer on amd card, type the following at the chimera boot screen-

Code:
aticonfig=

and then the name of the framebuffer, like

Code:
aticonfig=bulrushes

hope this helps!

another helpful boot flag for amd cards is the atiports= flag. If you need a particular port active, try setting this:

Code:
atiports=

as in:
Code:
atiports=4

you can experiment with different framebuffers and port numbers.

hd 7850?

Just for information regarding the updated first post: The term '3xx' isn't very precise, because the 3xx series contains in fact three different architectures which all use different sets of framebuffers in OS X:

GCN 1.0 (e.g. Pitcairn in R7 370) will use AMD7000Controller
GCN 1.1 (e.g. Hawaii in R9 390) will use AMD8000Controller
GCN 1.2 (e.g. Tonga in R9 380) will use AMD9000Controller

Interesting. So, the Sapphire R9 380 Compact ITX card, which has DVI, HDMI and 2mDP ports, doesn't have a port match up in the AMD9000Controller like the 7950/7970 Reference Design in the AMD7000Controller. Does that mean it defaults to the RadeonFramebuffer?
