Atheros WiFi reception poor on ML (4530s) - SOLVED

Hi all

I recently put ML onto a new 4530s, using UniBeast + the ProBook installer for ML.

All went well but WiFi didn't work as my HP didn't have an Atheros card. I bought a AR5B195/AR3011 wifi card and installed fine, but the reception on it is rubbish!

I have to be very close to my router (BT HomeHub 2, wireless N 2.4 ghz) to get even a single bar of signal and that drops out a lot. No other wireless devices have problems. Other devices find lots of local networks, but on the Mac, just my one shows up. I've checked the card installation and the antenna connections are both secure.

Is this a problem others have seen? ML specific? Problem with the card itself?

Any suggestion gratefully received.

I have the same wifi/bluetooth card as you. I still get good signal 30 feet away. TRy clearing your DNS caches

Flushing DNS caches:

1. Open terminal and type sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder and hit "enter" enter password if asked.
2. reboot

thanks for the reply.

I sorted it in the end, and of course it was a case of PEBCAK! I hadn't seated one of the antenna connections on the card firmly so it had a very poor connection. Re-installed and now get a nice strong signal!
