Greetings,

This lifelong Mac user/buyer (since 1986) gave up on waiting for Apple to release a 'basic' laptop. Something that simply surfed, emailed, Netflix-d -- all without breaking the bank. I know an iPad kinda does this, but without mouse support and a bigger screen it also DOESN'T do this.

I had hopes for the new MacBook to be something like the ZenBook 305 -- since they have nearly identical spec. I knew Mac wouldn't release such an item for $699 -- but I presumed they wouldn't dare go over $999. But of course they did. Because Apple is Apple and the $1299 price is pure heroin for them.

Anyway -- I tried my best to make sure this question wasn't already addressed -- but it's a simple one. In general, what are the odds of someone Hackintoshing this Intel Core M baby? I'd never try it myself first because I'm decent at tinkering but not at the level of most of you.

What I'm asking is do you think peeps like you will be able to hackintosh this baby? Or are there hardware issues that will likely rule it out?

Just curious. Thanks for your help.

It should work just fine the biggest issue I would worry about is the Wifi card.

Thanks for your response.

Do you mean the Wifi card will be a headache? Or that the Wifi card won't work? o_O

Related: since I'm a noob to all this, you'd recommend I wait until someone successfully does this and posts it somewhere? And would they likely do it here? Or is that a Google thing?

I've informally been following this Hackie stuff for years. I've lost track of one thing: if one were to do successful hackintosh with Yosemite, should they stop updating the OS and such? That is: like a jailbroken iPhone, would it BREAK the hack to update it?

Thanks again.

Thanks.

I looked up 'ATM' on the internet slang dictionary. First thing I saw was '@SS to mouth', and I thought that was a little harsh. ;)

Well, since the new MacBook uses it as well (no pun intended) it is likely that the next OSX update will support it. No?

I don't claim to be able to predict the future, but, yes... of course, it is possible.

Definitely need to keep this thread updated. This notebook is basically spec for spec the same as the new macbook. The wifi card is the intel 7265 and I believe its part of the core m package and the new macbook will share the same card. The touchpad is an elan based one which seems to be supported well in osx.
