Asus X299 - Support

Thanks Canyondust!

I just got up and running yesterday and I have been trying to get audio, so far no luck. I tried all 3 methods that KGP included in his Mojave instructions but none of them worked. Also my system fans are loud and they seem to speed up and slow down with no apparent reason. The only other onboard device not working is the WiFI, but according to my understanding there is no fix for the X299.

I copied my keststat below, I would appreciate you looking to see if there is anything astray.

You need HDEF patch for audio to come alive.

Those patches are all in the kgp config you just have to enable them.

As far as Wi-Fi/bt, disable both in the bios and get a wifi/bt card.

You need to read the guide, we can’t help you if you haven’t gotten the basics up and running. This is a more complicated build so please follow that guide carefully.

izo1, I know it may appear that I have not read the guide but I assure you I have. My ignorance has caused misunderstanding some of the instructions. I read the High Sierra guide prior to reading the Mojave guide. I am not completely new at this, I've just been away for several years of hacking and I've forgotten a lot.

Thanks again for your help, I am having a lot of fun trying to figure out what is what? And, I will continue to work at it.

No problem I wasn’t trying to demean or anything. But for example it took me a long time to understand installs but once you understand what everything does, it is just much easier. It’s just trial and error.

I still don’t understand SSDTs that well so I gave up on that end.

If you really get stuck on the audio thing, I'd be willing to look at your EFI folder. I have same MB and CPU.

Thanks everyone, but, since I have a GTX 1080 Ti, I am going to start over and use High Sierra. I can't get an AMD card till I sell the GTX 1080 Ti.

A photo of my physical build is attached. I bought a Dell Alienware Area-51 R4 last year with a i9-7980XE and GTX 1080 Ti. I took the CPU, CPU cooler, memory, video card, M.2 NVMe out of the Alien for the build you see below.

I think AMD is essential moving forward. If you are ok with being stuck on High Sierra, then that's good.

NVIDIA drivers were never ever stable for me and I tried for years to do work with GPUs from them on macOS...always had weird glitches especially when CUDA was installed.

I highly recommend a Radeon VII, look out for any special deals for them if you can.

If ever Apple decides to allow NVIDIA back, you can buy a NVIDIA GPU again :)

This is great news for PC lovers, but since Apple doesn’t support Ryzen I tend to shrug news off like this as wishful thinking. I for one am glad I was able to make a Hackintosh that is closely spec’d to the iMacPro, with the ability to be close to what the MacPro will be for a more affordable cost. Love what everyone is doing to keep KGP’s work continuing. Hopefully we will be able to see more advances when the new MacPro is released.

hey guys I found a 7940x already delidded on eBay for €850 used, should I buy it? in case, I just have to mod tscadj.kext from 15 to 27 integer?

This is good for everyone, it forces Intel to innovate/drop prices (the latter is rare with them).

I bought the 9980XE brand new sealed off eBay for $1,499, that person wanted to go AMD so saved me $500 :D

It's all connected.

Wait until the new Ryzen's come out next month. You're going to see people dump these CPUs on eBay.
