Hey man, thanks a lot for your reply. That's one of the boards I've figured out. The other one I'm having my eyes on is this one: https://www.msi.com//Motherboard/X299-PRO-10G

I would actually prefer the last one due to 256GB RAM Support, but for some reason all the builds and guides I've seen use an ASUS board. I assume there is a good reason for this?
ASUS and Gigabyte just work on Hackintosh , I found ASUS bios is easy to setup well for me that is. MSI ,Asrock ,EVGA not sure ,you may have to do your research

Thanks again. So it's going to be the X299-A II :)

I guess there shouldn't be any big differences between the X299-A II, the Deluxe II or the Sage 10G when it comes to configuring bios and stuff? I'm asking because I want to follow a pretty precise guide that went with the Sage 10G (but the Sage 10G is a bit too pricey and contains stuff I actually don't need)

Pretty much all ASUS boards are identical aside from ethernet and usb kexts. The main important BIOS settings are highlighted in the Dortania OpenCore guide and my github.
Remember to patch your BIOS with these instructions.

EDIT: added an EFI that should be ready to go. Remember to copy the Resources folder to EFI/OC. I left it out to save space.

Things to adjust:
1. Add in your own MacPro7,1 serial number following this section:
2. Adjust tscadjustreset.kext with the amount of threads your cpu has - 1.
3. Highly recommended to create your own usb kext once you are up and running.

Hello all, had a 'little' delay on my way. You know, life. Anyway, my beast was in packages for the past year and in the corona time i finished it. Almost. Only need to get two custom loop tubes and some other minor things and ready to fire up.
Custom loop is:
2*360 bitspower radiators, slim
D5 pump
Bitspower reservoir 200ml
Bykski Vega64 waterblock
Hexagon flow meter
XsPC Raystorm pro cpu block
7 be quiet silent wing 3 fans.

Had to do some custom mounting to the TB card riser- i put it vertically and was a bit tricky to make stands for it but went nice.

Updates soon, hallelujah!!!

Jeez it's been like a year! haha congrats. There have been advancements in TB since then you may get away with putting it in different slots. Testing is still going underway but it's hard for me since I don't have any many thunderbolt devices. I've had two docks so far that have worked but another user @dithaack is reporting ASUS bios code errors.

Thank you very much, @djlild7hina! Indeed its a long time hehe.
Right now im pretty flexible with TB position, since its in a riser card and on slot 2, gpu in slot 1, wifi bt on slot 7, and usb pci and nvme hd pci which is not installed. Is this still the preferred orientation of cards and slots?

Another question- since i dont need windows on this machine, only osx. Should i install windows first and do the initial setup for the TB there, and then delete this partition and install osx only? Dont want to mess things after osx installation, like boot disk numbers. Or should i leave windows while osx installed for further tweaking for TB if required?

think just for initial setup is fine. If you do have an external drive you could just install Windows there and plug it in when/if needed

1. Yes, create a usb kext.
2. No, it either requires a iGPU or a T2 chip. Currently there is no way to get around that.
3. Do you have a Wifi/BT card? If so, which one?
4. Generally, you should check the forum if the latest update is okay before updating. Usually updates are pretty flawless aside for maybe updating kexts and/or newer versions of bootloader. Big updates like upcoming 10.16 may require more adjustments.
5. Yes, thunderbolt works with hot plug. (Follow kgp's guide). If you want full thunderbolt bus and local node support it will require flashing the card (Look at CaseySJ's z390 designare thread)

1. create a USB kext:: I have read the documentation twice now, and it is still above my paygrade... is there another source that I can go to to learn how to do this? (I mean, thank heavens for the person who wrote this guide! they are very clear, thoughtful, concise.. It's an EXCELLENT resource, I just am still lost, not his/her fault!). I even read the USBMap read me file, and I have read it two or three times, only to get lost again.... What is the advantage of mapping the USB ports?

3. Wifi/BT card: I do not have one currently, only what the motherboard comes with. But I did order one from amazon:

YOUBO PC Hackintosh WiFi Card BCM94360CD 802.11a/g/n/ac 1750Mbps BT4.0 PCIe Network Adapter Natively Support AirDrop Handoff 2.4/5Ghz (Plug and Play for macOS)

Is this card ok?

6. Dumb question, but I can't find the answer: Do I have skylake?, coffee lake? What do I have in this machine?
