- Another point about BIOS firmware provided by the different Mainbaord manufacturers : to overcome CPU performance issue (with or without overclocking) , an Intel CPU microcode update within the respective BIOS firmware distributions is mandatory.
Hello
You mean : Update to the latest BIOS, no ?
Thanks

Yes the bios must be updated to the latest intel CPU microcode or modded with Ubu.

Hello friends, how are you?
Meet 50 shades of grey (pictured)(0 rgb)

This is my old x99 i7 6950x based computer
But rebuilt with RX 5700 XT video card

The question, to save time
Do I need to go back to @kgp original x99 guide

Or is our method here at x299 a good enough job?

Nice build : I like Noctua CPU air cooler : I see you have the latest NH-D15 chromax.black !

Ok so... after a bit of testing
I understood what it was

And if you update the bios through the Asus site you can skip the manual update

True, even with new version of Windows 10 after 17xx, it was impossible to make an overclock before this bios update
But that was fixed in the latest Bios update

The latest microcode version is 36h
And you can see it in the Aida64 software

So I think we're ok to go

I'm sure what you brought up is great
But I'm a little scared of such manual actions

So first I did some testing, I realized what it was
And I commented here on the results of my tests to help move forward

You won't break anything. You download your BIOS from the website and run a test on that downloaded BIOS file. It won't touch your current BIOS. :)

@xerox24 yeah, it's broken. Someone mentioned that the MSR unlock state in the BIOS menu is broken - it's always locked, which prevents macOS from booting without a kernel patch. Stay with BIOS 2002 until ASUS release an update to fix the issue (which could be months).
