I am trying to install Yosemite on my Asus UX51VZA ad have run into a problem reaching then installation menu.
  1. Can I install Yosemite on a system with Optimus graphics. If so, how?
  2. Here is the error that I get when I boot from the USB drive of Yosemite:

Remove /Extra/AppleACPIPlatform.kext from the USB.

Thank you for the quick reply. After removing the .kext, the error messages disappeared and the installer now seems to freeze on "SMC: successfully initialized." Any ideas?

Post quality photo of entire screen.

Also, in post #1 you ask about optimus, yet your profile indicates you don't have optimus.

So...

Please provide complete details in your profile/signature
(Profile/Settings link in upper right corner of this site)

System: manufacturer/model
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
System: HP ProBook 4540s
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx), and graphics capabilities. For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.

I am sorry that the photographs are crappy, I do not have a better camera.

Here are the specs of the laptop:
  • System: ASUS UX51VZ
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3612QM
  • Chipset: Chief River, HM77
  • Memory: 12 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3
  • Display:1920x1080 IPS display
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForge GT 650M (using Optimus) + Intel HD 4000 Graphics
  • Storage: 256 GB SSD

Not that they are bad, but no good because they do not include the entire screen.

You need to use IGPlatformID=01660004, but IGPlatformID is broken in Chimera4.

Use Chameleon instead.

boot with:
GraphicsEnabler=Yes IntelCapriFB=4 SkipNvidiaGfx=Yes dart=0 nv_disable=1 -v

Thanks for the help! How do I switch my bootloader to Chameleon?
