HDMI audio has also been tricky in my case...

I give you below informations on my rig :
it is based on NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext 1.2.2 (enable HDMI) with Lilu.kext 1.2.2; AppleALC.kext 1.2.2 installed in L/E
EDIT : NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext method for Nvidia/HDMI is now added to Toleda's guide (not seen when first write this answer)

One thing to know (for your Nvidia) is you may need a DVI2HDMI or DP2DMI adapter to make HDMI audio work -
In my case HDMI/HDMI did not work and I had to move to DVI2HDMI

I have the same built, same graphic card, but no audio. Asus Tuff Z370 Pro Gamer, High Sierra 10.13.4

Try running this .pkg file; it is a VoodooHDA.kext installation package (for a UEFI installation of High Sierra).
