Thanks Eric for the post, this was a huge help for me when I installed Mountain Lion on a very similar system to yours a little over a year ago.
Now it's time to upgrade to Yosemite. I'm wondering if any of you guys with similar hardware have any tips to share. Will the same steps here work for Yosemite? I'm planning to do an upgrade from Mountain Lion rather than fresh install.
