Newbie here, first time build, trying to build a CustoMac for my son.
I purchased the following according to the CustoMac guide:
  • ASUS ROG Strix H370-I Gaming
  • Intel Core i3-8100 CPU
  • Crucial Ballistix Sport LT (16GB)
  • No GPU - using built in UHD 630
I tried to follow the UniBeast installation instructions for Mojave:
  1. Downloaded Mojave - OK
  2. Created bootable USB with UniBeast - OK
    a) copied MultiBeast onto completed USB drive - OK
  3. Recommended BIOS settings ???
    a) hold Delete while system boots - OK
    b) Load Optimized Defaults ???
1. To access BIOS/UEFI Setup, press and hold Delete on a USB Keyboard while the system is booting up - OK
2. Load Optimized Defaults - Don't know what this is?
3. If your CPU supports VT-d, disable it - N/A for my build, don't see that option anywhere.
4. If your system has CFG-Lock, disable it - Don't see that,
5. If your system has Secure Boot Mode, disable it - I think its off by default.
6. Set OS Type to Other OS - Don't see that.
7. If your system has IO Serial Port, disable it - Don't see that.
8. Set XHCI Handoff to Enabled - Don't see that.
9. If you have a 6 series or x58 system with AWARD BIOS, disable USB 3.0 - What is a 6 series?

Did I do this right?

4. boot from USB
  1. … testing hardware … (~4 min)
  2. … user settings … (~4 min)
  3. …. scan entries … (~ 8 min)
  4. … Welcome to Clover 4674 …(~1 min)
  5. Get the Apple logo loading screen, with the progress bar stuck at the start.
  6. Read several forum posts complaining about the same issue, rebooted from USB, pressed space bar, selected Verbose Mode (I really wish the instructions said that since it is a crucial step, could have saved ~20 min)
  7. get blank screen - seems to hang

When you get into the bios F7 for advanced mode and then in the exit section, load optimized defaults should be there. I would also load the latest bios also. The bios does not have 7 or 9. The rest are buried in the Advanced tab which off the top of my head I cant remember.

What HD are you using as that has an effect too?

After a long time I finally got this screen:
At Clover Boot Screen select Options > PCI devices > USB Ownership and USB Injection

For permanent solution check Inject USB + FixOwnership in Clover's config.plist
Code:
  <key>USB</key>
        <dict>
            <key>FixOwnership</key>
            <true/>
            <key>Inject</key>
            <true/>
        </dict>

Thank you for the reply! But still no joy. I get the following garbled error screen after several minutes. I think initially its legible, then it gets over written. I will have to catch it just right to take a better photo.

When you created your Unibeast installer did you select UEFI Boot Mode?

"Still waiting for root device".
When installing this means that your USB flash drive cannot be found.
This is usually because the flash drive is in a USB3 port.
If this is the case move it to a USB2 port, if it is already in a USB2 port move it to another and try again.
Repeat until you have tried all USB ports.
Use a USB2 flash drive.
If it still doesn't work you could try another flash drive.
You might also try enabling Legacy on your USB3 ports in your BIOS settings.
If you only have USB3 ports try with your USB flash drive in a USB2 hub.
Make sure Fast Boot is not activated in your BIOS.

May require USBInjectAll.kext in /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/
May require XHCI-unsupported.kext in EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/

The ASUS STRIX H370-I motherboard apparently only has USB3 ports. I've attached a pic of the user's manual.
I thought that if this motherboard was listed on the buyers guide, then it would be compatible?

I turned off Fast Boot (which may have been set before, I'm not sure)

I am a total newbie, I don't know how to use kext's, need to read up on that.

thank you!

Your latest screen shot still shows "Still waiting for root device", which is what you get when it can't read your USB flash drive (as mentioned).

Best case is to use a USB2 flash drive -- even if you plug it into a USB3 port it should work.

There are alternatives, but they're all a lot more complicated than getting a USB2 drive. :)
