Hello All,

I am planning to buy Radeon RX 5500 XT video card, is it safe to work.

I have another option to buy the RX 570 but I think that the RX 5500 in terms of Ram and PCI-E 4.

My current macOS 11.2
Mobo: Gigabyte Z490 UD AC
CPU: i7 10700k
Bootloader: OC

Thank you

Yes, the Radeon RX 5500 XT is a supported macOS graphics card.

You will need to use the agdpmod=pikera boot argument to get proper display out working.

Hi @Edhawk I have got the card today, and I just added the boot arg agdpmod=pikera and it worked like a charm.

Everything is working right expect I have noticed that the card detected in the PCI x8 not the PCI x16.

I have re checked the slot on the mother board that I installed the RX5500 in the PCI x16 lane.

Can you advice please.

The graphics card working at x8 speed won't be a kext issue.

It will be related to the number of PCIe lanes available in your system and whatever else you have plugged in to the PCIe slots, alongside your graphics card.

These are the PCIe slots in your motherboard:
  1. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16) (White/metal rim to slot)
  2. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4) (Black)
  3. 3 x PCI Express x1 slots (short)

  • Do you have a PCIe adapter card for an NVME/M.2 drive connected to the x4 PCIe slot?
    • If yes, the that will impact the graphics card which I assume is in the x16 slot and limit it to x8 speed.
  • Do you have a PCIe WiFi/Bluetooth card/adapter connected to the x4 slot?
    • If you have a WiFi/BT adapter in one of the long slots move it to a short PCIe x1 slot, this should put the graphics card back to x16.

I don't have NVME/M.2, also I don't have Wifi or bluetooth card.
The Radeon card is inserted in the metal slot.

Could it be some settings in bios? I have went through it but found nothing.

see attachments.
