I'll check out the OpenCore Configurator and see if I can dig a little more. I do have the I225-V 2.5GBe as I'm using the same motherboard as the golden build here. I do know that the Ethernet on this motherboard has given people a lot of headaches and that's what the majority of complaints were about in the reviews. Mine did seem to work fine when I previously installed Windows. From Dortania's guide it mentions this:
  • Note 2: If you get a kernel panic on the AppleIntelI210Ethernet kext, your Ethernet's path is likely PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1C,0x4)/Pci(0x0,0x0)
I'm not getting a kernel panic, but was wondering if maybe this could be it? I'll post back tonight or tomorrow after I have time to play around with it. Thanks for the suggestions!
If you want to be sure, you could always use MaciASL to check your BIOS DSDT for the path for the Ethernet card.
That would make sure it really works.

I got it working finally after I ordered and installed a wifi card which worked out of the box. But I decided I wanted hard-lined Internet. So I used Hackintool to export the pcidevices list and found that my Ethernet path was indeed PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1C,0x4)/Pci(0x0,0x0) and not the one suggested. I made a little change to my config.plist, and what do you know? I have 2 ways to connect to internet now. Thanks for the suggestions!

First of all, thanks a lot for this guide, it was very useful to setup my rig.

I should only mention that I initially had trouble with the onboard Ethernet adapter. Then I found that in the provided config.plist there is what I think is a mistake. After fixing it, my ethernet started working.

Attached is a picture I found in the OpenCore documentation. In the spot I highlighted with an arrow there should be "0x4". Instead, I found that in the provided config.plist there's a "0x1" (1 instead of 4).

I don't even know how I noticed, and maybe the other value works for other people, but if your card isn't working either, it's worth a shot. It did the trick for me.

Cheers!

Thanks shilohh, based on you guide I was able to install BigSur on the same HW. The only problem I have is the Ethernet. No way to have it working. The System Preference > Network > Ethernet shows it green, network works on house network (can access local NAS) but when I try to open a web page nothing happens...
I saw I225v Ethernet has many issues. Do you have any idea how to solve this?
Worst case I need to find a PCIe Ethernet card that works OOB.

This guide was inspiring and *very* helpful thanks! I just wanted to add this tidbit for those with Ethernet trouble with this mainboard - for me after adding the Kexts and their references the Ethernet showed in the System Preferences/Network and appeared active (green) yet I had no internet access. But going to Advanced (button), Hardware, Configure Manually, Speed 1000baseT, Duplex full-duplex, MTU Standard, then OK/Apply caused it to take right off. I think it was the speed setting but I also have gigabit routers. Hope this helps.

leafeforest, thank you! The manual fix you described worked. I now have fully functional Ethernet!

Hi there. I might like to try this build. Will I have any issues if I swap out to a more affordable CPU? Like an i5 10400 or something? Also, could you comment at all about how noisy this rig is? I'll be using it for music production so quiet is better.

Thanks!

AFAIK using that processor shouldn't make a difference. It's supported.

As for noise, it all comes down to the case and fans. I used a Fractal Define R5 from a previous build. Fractal make great low noise cases at a fair price. For the fans, I went all out on Noctua low-noise fans. They're premium, but worth the price IMHO. I can't hear a peep from my rig, even when I'm pushing it.
