So, I built CustoMac#4 and was very disappointed in the GA-Z68X-UD5-B3. It installed fine but was just an all around poor experience with the board itself, numerous issues on post, etc. So I switched to an ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe last night.

This board was by far the most simple install I have ever done and the closest to vanilla I have ever come. I am very impressed. Let me start by saying thanks to vdmesis and his guide that can be found here:

It is not my intention to clone this guide, only to list the hardware I used to make a nearly perfect system. So here it is:

-Sabrent Mini Bluetooth USB Adapter BT-USBT (Works OOB, full Magic Trackpad Gestures, disabled onboard BlueTooth in BIOS to be safe, I know the Sabrent works perfectly)

-XFX 6870 Black Edition Dual Fan GPU (Works OOB with GraphicsEnabler=yes)

-OCX Solid 3 Sata III 6GB SSD (used in 6G sata port)

-ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe (see guide linked above to install and my note below)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131753&Tpk=p8z68%20deluxe

-Cooler Master Elite 370 Case (kind of a cheesy case but it works, cards all fit, needs fans)

-Intel Core i7 2600K 3.8GHz

-Sony Optiarc CD/DVD Burner

-8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

-Corsair 750 Watt PSU: (I am using 2X 6870 in Crossfire for WIN7 Gaming so went bigger here)

Thats my build plus a magic trackpad/keyboard/mouse/monitor I already had. Again, follow the guide listed above making sure to add the following:

You've inspired me to send back my GA-Z68X-UD5-B3
I liked the board, and OS X seemed to run fine on it.
Until last night when i realized it didn't have true EFI :'(

I couldn't dual boot windows 7 on GUID.
So i'm shipping it back to newegg, and the P8Z68 should arrive friday!

I think you will be happy, that GB board is flakey... Mine was possessed. FYI, I am still loving the P8Z68 Deluxe and have used the build in this thread extensively with no problems.

Before it comes in the mail,
is there specific things i should disable in Bios?
And how come you don't use the on board bluetooth?

Thanks in advanced!

I don't think I made any BIOS changes at all actually except for boot order. I don't use onboard bluetooth because I already had the Sabrant that works OOB so I just plugged it in and went with it. I need to look back into that actually because the Sabrant doesn't resume after sleep.

Didn't change sata to AHCI?
What about LucidLogix Virtu or whatever it was, the virtual gpu thinger.

And another question, which sata is your hard drive plugged into?
Dark Blue (far right, if looking at the front of the ports), white (middle), light blue (left)

I just want to make sure i have everything covered.

Edit: Some advice, you should switch to Lnx2Mac's Ethernet kext, i noticed using apple's caused KP when i had my gigabyte. It only happened with P2P, because i was using world of warcraft launcher which uses p2p to download the patches, and once it hit over 2mb/s it would KP. It stopped when i switched to Lnx2Mac's. I actually didn't realize it was that until i googled around, i thought world of warcraft was causing the panic.

Hi everybody,
I am finally succes with my Mac based on ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe on Lion onboard as well.
I use i7 2600k, Radeon 5770, Patriot 2x2GB 1600Mhz CL7, OCZ SSD Vertex3 60 GB, Revoltec BeQuiet Dark Power P9 550W, Pentagram Bluetooth instead of build on board one.
Everything working great exept FaceTime - veryfication error!!!.

During the intalation I need to run Lion Installer as -x (safe mode) and after first time fresh Lion instalation with PCIRootUID=1 otherwise cannot reboot.

Could you explain how you were able to get Windows to boot in efi and install on gpt?

Is it just me, or does the bios display high CPU Temps?

Yes, mine are generally about 2/3 up the little bar they use to display them but I haven't actually looked for the TJMAXX on the 2600K and figured out if its an issue. I seriously doubt it is. Upgrading from the stock cooler at some point may be worth it. I saw a tweet talking about this one from Techzilla a few weeks ago and think I will pick it up when I can find a US reseller.
