I'm wondering whether it will work for a laptop that has its HDMI port wired to the discrete card (nVidia GeForce 650m)? It's Optimus and there's no BIOS to wire all video through the discrete card.

I had this laptop a few years ago, getting the HDMI out to work with the laptop is EXTREMELY difficult if not possible at all. Its thanks to the way its wired in the motherboard the HDMI out is tied soley to the Nvidia GPU, I wasnt able to get it work after many months of trial and error. You can test this for yourself in Windows, its not possible through the Intel Graphics to get HDMI out working, its only for the internal screen.

I think some other people had luck with getting it to work by changing the ports and using certain patches, although that is with other variants of the laptop such as the N56JN. Ill link the guide for you, but I hope you do manage to get it working!

If your laptop is Optimus, then your laptop is not "laptop that has its HDMI port wired to the discrete card".

You asked about dedicated Nvidia scenario, not Optimus.
