Hey, have you ever gotten the function keys to work properly? I'm trying to get the volume and the brightness to work. Plus what was useful in the HP kext?

Hey
Nope, no function keys yet. Could be VoPS2 issue, scancodes, DSDT edit, some Info.plist, I really don't know.
EDIT:
Fn + Scr LK : Brightness Down
Fn + F5 : Brightness something
Don't press Fn + F8, it messes up the screen o_O

For brightness/backlight try the DSDT edit for PNLF, which allows to set brightness through Display prefs. Display switches itself off after the timeout if left on.

Volume: prefpane from pkg (installer, or use unpkg on it) http://code.google.com/p/voodoohda/downloads/list
Trackpad prefs: VoPS2 prefpane, circular scrolling: set left bottom corner for example.
-> /Library/PreferencePanes/

Still missing battery information in Lion. DSDT edit for AC _PRW 0x18,0x03 (injects AC adapter. Was removed from VoodooBattery) isnt enough. AppleACPIPlatform.kext+VoodooBattery.kext KP. Some have reported success with a rollback of 10.6.7 ACPIPlatform, others not.
So, more DSDT editing needed. Anyone feel free to fix it as per bcc9 instructions: 8bit access of methods. http://www.insanlynac.com/forum/index. ... &p=1736543 When fixed should work with VoodooBattery.
######
EDIT:
AppleACPIPlatform 1.3.5
VoodooBattery 1.3.3

After at least 1 extra restart, battery information is available.
######
EDIT: I have ditched VoodooHDA and got AppleHDA working with the vanilla AppleACPIPlatform (yes that means no battery info which sucks), it's stable now, apart from the odd Firefox crash which is a known issue..
Read the later pages to find out how to update your DSDT with HDEF edits

i'm still with BIOS K53E.216
EDIT: gen4ig777 has a better clean DSDT so use that instead, after updating BIOS to 219.

I found out about Fn + f8 the hard way myself...

As for me, I have the k53e-bb4 and it uses Elantech Touchpad, so VoodooPS2 did not work for me. I tried numerous times to get it working for me, which it sucks really because the modified kext I'm using had it working like a mouse.

Also, I do have the speedstep patch, but when I try to put it to sleep, it doesn't work. Dunno why. What does the semi-fixed dsdts suppose to do?

Still missing battery information in Lion. HP DSDT edit for AC _PRW 0x18,0x03 doesnt appear to work. AppleACPIPlatform.kext+VoodooBattery.kext KP.

Current BIOS K53E.216

Keep up the good work guys, it helps us all out :)

If I can get graphics, keyboard/mouse, and USB working and maybe speedstep, then that would be sufficient, everything else can be worked around.

  :headbang:

Big ups guys!

Edit: oh...
As for the Elantech touchpad, try adding your device ID into the "Info.plist" of ApplePS2Trackpad.kext

I Purchased the K53E-BD4DT today on Bestbuy.com @ $449 and some change in tax.
DEAL HERE: K53E-BD4DT on SLICKDEALS.NET (was K53E-BBR4, replaced recently with the BD4DT)
IMO a pretty good deal for an i5 2430m laptop
No USB3.0 or expansion slots, which I might be kicking myself later next year, but screw it, I need a laptop now.

I purchased this laptop hoping I can be successful on a dual boot, but I'm not gonna be completely hurt if it doesn't pan out.

You better believe I'll be contributing my efforts in this thread.

hi, could anyone explain me how to find the correct efistring for hd3000 to work with lcd resolution of 1920x1080 ? i guess the efi string john posted a few posts ago is for 1366x768 resolution . i see everything scrambled although i can see in monitor settings 1920x1080 .
any solution?
thanks
kaj

I am talking about internal lcd. Why max resolution is 1366x768?
Is it possible to override it and to select 1920x1080 modifying any kext or plist/efi string?
Thanks!
