Hoping someone here can help me out.

My system has been stable for months now, so I decided to mess it all up and upgrade my video card. I went out and purchased an ASUS Nvidia GF GTX 1050 Ti and installed it. Got all the drivers installed (turned off system protection, installed drivers, ensured everything was set with clover) and rebooted. Everything works fine, except for RANDOM CRASHES.

What I mean is, I will just be browsing the web, or working in photoshop, or have terminal + sublime text open, and it'll just crash. I don't really game that much or anything so I really doubt it's a heat issue or anything. It's very weird, and I'm not sure how to check the logs, as when I boot with the '-v' flag, nothing pops on the screen. I'll just be working away, then black screen, then I'm at the bios.

I've read countless threads, forum posts, blog posts etc, but nothing seems to be this exact issue (mainly bootloops, not just random crashes). The computer doesn't freeze or anything, it just black screen reboots right back to clover. I can't reproduce it manually myself, it's seemingly completely random.

Macos Ver:
  • High Sierra 10.13.2 (17C205) (I've also tried 10.13.1, and the other two(?) versions of 10.13.2 over the past weeks, and all have the issue)

BIOS
  • VT-d disabled
  • Memory tried at xm profile 1, and, normal (1600 and 1333 mhz) same thing happens
  • Bios is latest firmware
  • onboard video disabled

I have the same problem with the TITAN X maxwell. When I was with Sierra I had no problem, but since I upgraded to High Sierra it reboots while working with Premiere Pro.

Someone told me it is a problem with the CUDA drivers, maybe its that but I am guessing its a overheating issue.

Can someone give us a light here?

I'm not sure it's overheating. It'll do it with me sometimes just after booting up. Or, other times after being on for several days. Sometimes it's literally only got sublime text open, or Iterm2. Not anything graphics intensive, and the overall PC temp's are just fine. Not sure if there's a way to check the video card temperature itself?

Hey @flewid, I'm having the same issue. Random system freeze (KP/reboot) after ~1d+ uptime.

Could you tell me if you see any Kernel_* dump files in /Bibliothèque/Logs/DiagnosticReports/?

Also, what is your usual system uptime when this happens?

I'm not at home right now so can't get you the logs, but, it is totally sporadic. Sometimes it's after 5 minutes uptime, sometimes it's 2-3 days.

I have noticed it seems to be when video is playing, or, i'm resizing a window in photoshop, or scrolling a very long web page though.

Ok please let me know if you can share the logs. I'm having hard system freezes after ~1day of uptime. Seems to happen when I'm not doing anything specific. Unfortunately I don't have enough Kernel dumps (which btw seem completely random) to crosscheck where this issue could come from.

So far I'm seeing a lot of people reporting similar situations with NVidia GPUs... which makes me think that the issue can come from there. But none of my kernel dumps show NVidia kexts in their traceback.
