This may be of interest for those watching this thread. Specifically the tip about how to use the MSI X299 Pro and a hardware hack to get an x16/x8/x16/x4/x4 PCI-e slot configuration. The same thing works for an ASRock Creator or Taichi CLX (bifurcation settings are in a menu called "IIO Configuration").
