Is this the same one that is installed when reinstalling the .kext files with Rehabman's .kext injection process for setting up an EliteBook/ProBook? If so, then it's not working on my HP 8470p EliteBook. Installed 10.14.2, ran the .kext injection update to pull the newest .kexts after updating the repository, no audio after doing so. What is the "proper method" for install? Or does dropping it on the EFI volume in the appropriate place suffice?

This thread concerns the new (post #1) AppleALC kext version 1.3.5 in beta test and not officially launched on Github.

What is the "proper method" for install?

Remove any existing AppleALC and Lilu kexts from /Library/Extensions and install new kexts from post #1 in same directory using KextBeast, and repair caches and permissions. Confirm audio layout according to post #1 and restart.

Or does dropping it on the EFI volume in the appropriate place suffice?

Generally not. See above. System may ignore kexts in EFI/Clover/kexts/Other if kexts of the same name exist in /L/E.
