Hi,
I am starting using the TB display with a z270 itx Asrock "Fatality", a mini-itx format with Thunderbolt 3 door.
The igpu is a hd530 from an i7-6700k.

After a pair of days of test I see that:
  1. it not start every time: sometime yes, sometime I have to reboot the hack pro, and/or unplug cable.
  2. but when it start, it works as firewire hub. I connected my HD firewire and, after cold boot, I see the disk on desktop.
(Not yet tested a TB disk, but I am pretty sure daisy chain works)
  3. the built in speaker and camera doesn't work
Basically the Display want to be connected a pair of second after booting hackintosh (with this method it start at 80% of times).
But sometime it started normally at first attemp.

There is some setup or some kext for a more solid Thunderbolt-video signal?
Is this the right section? (there would be a TB section! )

------Tech notes------
  • Following another z270 user, the TB controller is this one:
    http://ark.intel.com/products/94030/Intel-JHL6240-Thunderbolt-3-Controller
  • Asrock provided me a 2.2a version of Bios that allow to see the Bios screen directly on TB display
(before It was necessary a second hdmi display to see it)
  • Other z270 TB users say that apollo board need to be connected before the clover screen.
If connected at boot, the TB device is not recognized

Just as test, I connected both imac 27" mdp and TB display.
The result is a duplication of signal until clover screen, but at middle apple progress bar,
the TB display shut down (sofisticate), and the old stay alive...

Today I tried installing again a windows 10 trial, and installing
every Asrock utility included in original DvD. Included the thunderbolt utility/driver.

The thunderbolt display works hotplug on windows, before installing drivers
it was working only the video, but after installing, I noticed that audio,
camera, and back usb were working!

My hope was that , after this upgrade, on macOs side there will be some effect.
Instead the display continue to boot randomly; when boot the camera, audio and usb not working.

I am tried everything (apart the normal Asrock's bios)...
Really there is nothing to try?

Detail: sometime the TB start and it's working at 100%.
I mean that looking in pref I see every option, I see the luminosity cursor, the USB works etc
But this happens randomly and rarely, most of time I just see work the video, and no luminosity control.

I have just done a build with this board, super easy to set up with a 580 installed... I bought I in hopes I would be able to use it with my LG 5K display, gave it a bash on Windows with no luck... will try macOS this week. Anyone tried a similar set up?

Gave windows another go last night, and it fired up! The screen came on at Login so no splash screen etc which is going to pose a problem but the desktop came on in 4K with speakers working just fine. Only problem is getting the GPU to pipe its power through the Mobo which I am not sure is possible?

Will try macOS soon too.

Would love this working with my dual boot.

Nice, what do you mean as 580?

I partially solved my issue: installing the new clover (the one for high sierra) has changed something.
When the system boot up, it stay black because it's waiting in the clover screen.
If I press right arrow, ENTER, the hackintosh do a fast reboot and starts normally.
:(

Ok I need to dedicate some time to an update setup

Hi everyone.

I'm totally new to this Forum and also Hackintosh.
Been a Mac User since 2004 and now built my first Hackintosh.

I ran into the same problem, having video-issues with my Apple Thunderbolt-Display - which works totally fine with my other Mac-Hardware.

When connecting TB-Display to my TB3-Card (via Apple-Adapter and AMD R9 280x GPU patched into the TB3-Card) I see the boot dialog just like Pineapple68, but after white Apple on black with Progress bar the monitor stays black. I can connect to the Mackintosh via VNC and log into MacOS etc. Even USB-Sticks plugged into the TB-Display are recognized correctly, but I can't bringe the monitor to show me MacOS.

Any ideas?

PS: Hackintosh on a "regular" Display via Mini-DP directly into the AMD R9 280x works without problems!
