This guy understands it!

Bye bye laptophacks in a few years time, but i mean they haven’t been running that super well anyway have they?

MacPro will most likely not contain an arm cpu, as long as they don’t pay intel or amd to manufacture it for them.

One thing that really desturbs me though is the software makers lack of support for older macos versions, i would love to still use Mojave for 10 years more.

altough catalina with crossover for my 32bit apps is a fine workaround

I do believe you BOTH misunderstand.

It was stated that their entire lineup would transition within the next couple of years. Sorry, but while the pro models will more than likely be the last to move to ARM, they will move indeed.

Your issue is with the brand, then, not the actual power/performances the machine offers? Like the fact that the "iPad hardware" ran an emulated Autodesk Maya effortlessly through Rosetta? Well.

Since the raspberry pi 4 is based on arm and has 8gb of ram can’t it be modified to run Mac OS 11. ?
How about Hackintoshing an Android TV Box(that has an ARM chip)?
No. These CPUs aren't compatible like that. E.g. Apple's ARM is a package that contains a load of custom fixed function hardware not available on any other ARM-style processors.

There's a good chance you will never be able to buy an ARM-CPU that is compatible with ARM-macOS.

But they will support their 2020 intel 10th gen MacBook Pros.
So no problem for support the next 6 years.

tim cook doesn’t know what he is doing

if people are smart , they will not buy another intel mac because that mac will be obsolete soon

they should wait untill apple releases the mac with their silicone cpu, that way that mac will have support for more years compared to the intel based mac

so what this means
apple or should i say mr cook shoot himself on the foot

we can see a decline in apple sales
excellent job mr cook
not only do you destroyed mac os
you also screw your costumers or loyal mac os fans and you also screwed apple company

i think is time for you to go

I don't believe so... yes they are taking a risk, but you mustn't forget that they have a pile of money they are sitting on. And Intel will be supported for several years, guessing around at least 5 years or so. And if it succeeds, it will give them complete control of hardware and software. Who knows, they might even lower prices on Apple Silicon Mac's (although I'm not holding my breath for that).

PowerPC Macs became outdated when Snow Leopard was announced. Only 3 years from the beginning of the transition.

Yes, but they were losing marketshare left and right, the powerpc was going nowhere, Intel was then constantly creating more powerful chips, and they desperately wanted to exit to a viable platform. I remember comparisons then, and they mostly commented on how Intel could deliver more power for the same price. Here they going in the opposite direction, getting more control on hw and software, optimised SOC's that - already! - have proven themselves to be strong enough to support their soft.

Apple estimates 4 years for macOS devices.

For the purposes of our assessment, years of use, which are based on first owners, are modeled to be four years for macOS and tvOS devices and three years for iOS, iPad OS and watchOS devices.

Like how Macs transitioned to Intel, ARM-based Mac Pro should be released from mid-2021 to early 2022.
