I just read that the memory on this model is soldered on; 8Gb forever with no upgrade possible.
Are we going back to the Mac128 days?

I doubt it. Apple appear to have gone for a lower priced and lower specced model. For a very simple desktop system, I think 8Gb is sufficient for its intended audience. Its not a server or graphics workstation obviously, and when you consider it purely in the desktop role, typically internet, email, office, some pics and video clips, youtube, that kinda stuff, then 8Gb works fine I reckon.

If anything, I think a slightly better CPU, maybe with HD5200 graphics, would have been better with little if any cost implication.
