Today Apple announced a new M1 Ultra CPU, a new Mac, the Mac Studio and a new display, the Studio Display. They are touted as the most capable monitor and the best performing Mac ever.

Available today, and shipping March 18th. What do you think of these new products?

I had high expectations, for performance and (low) price. I guess I'm disappointed. But these are terrific products. I just won't afford them.
I wanted the iPhone SE3 at a better price. And no mention of the mini. sigh.

Product pages are now live:

Good grief. Why am I not surprised that the "Studio" starts at $1,999 and goes up to $3,999 (WITHOUT the new 5k $1,599 monitor!) but still, that's a LOT of money - even for a sooped-up Mini!

Mac Mini Studio at $1999 is really cheap actually. When you compare Z690 hackintosh with an AMD GPU, the GPU itself costs almost $1500. And the the Mac Mini is a lot faster.

Did you refer to Mac Studio?

I'll cross-post this for fun. In 2005, I paid $4000 for a 2.7 GHz dual-core PowerPC G5 (liquid-cooled, no less). I still have it, running Mac OS X 10.4.11, mostly so I can still play Classic games. The $4K price for an M1 Ultra Mac Studio looks very good to me.

So according to the product pages, the Mac Studio is about 3x the height of a Mac Mini (3.7 inches vs. 1.4 inches) but same depth and width (7.7 inches).

But check this out- the weight of the Mac Studio with M1 Max is 5.9 pounds (2.7 kg), and with M1 Ultra is 7.9 pounds (3.6 kg). That means the M1 Ultra with whatever other apparatus for cooling inside is 2 pounds heavier!

Mac Studio should be terrific for people who need that performance, at reasonable prices. It will attract some Hackintosh users.
