My home network consists of 4 computers

1-ex58 hckintosh
1-p55 hackintosh
1-GA-AMD-Linux box
1-P55-Win7

Both my i7 hackintosh MoBos have 1000Mb/s Lan but best I can do is 100Mb/s

I have a DLink DES 1016D Switch and a Dlink DiR 635 router. All hardwired.

Any tips for greater speed?

Okay so after checking the specs for my DLink DES 1016D Switch I see it is 100Mbs and so is the router.

here's the next question:

If I swap the switch for one that can do 1000Mbs do I also have to do the same for the router?

After all the router is only assigning addresses locally, The data should only be passing through the switch, right? So just upgrading the switch should be enough for the Local intranet, right?

if you have this setup

internet -> 100Mb/s modem/router -> 1Gb/s switch

then the WAN internet connection will be at 100Mb/s and your LAN will have gigabit speeds.

also if you cant get gigabit speeds on your hackintosh try manually setting to 1000baseT in Advanced Ethernet preferences.

Thank you.

I will get the hardware and post the results.

WewHoo.

I bought one 8 port gigabit switch and one Pci gigabit ether card for my one machine that didn't already have a gigabit card in it.

My network now goes at 80-85MB/s

Holy crap that's fast ether. Thanks for your help. I love it.

I didn't have to change anything on the Ubuntu system but I did have to do as you said and change my Snow Network settings for 1000BaseT.

Thanks again.
