Guys, I'll be building a new PC this December (nearly 14th or so) so I'm getting some hardware. Here's the list of things I've in my mind.

  • CPU - Intel i7 4770k - $385
  • Motherboard - Gigabyte Z97M-D3H - $152.64
  • HDD - 1TB Seagate Baraccuda - $61.86
  • Monitor - 24" DELL with HDMI (Thinking, no specific model yet) - Approx. $220
  • Cabinet - IBoll ATX - $35.53
  • Graphics - 2GB NVIDIA EVGA GTX 760 - $208.87

These are my considerations, I'll be reusing my 650 WATT PSU from my current build for this, so I've not included it in list. Any recommendations?

That's crazy expensive for the CPU, why not get the 4790K which is newer and (at least right now on newegg) 85 dollars cheaper?

Also I would add a SSD for you boot drive.

Thanks for the reply @jeffbbz, I ran across the CPU comparison feature in Intel website for 4770k and 4790k. http://ark.intel.com/compare/80807,75123

It says that the new 4790k is not "Conflict Free", whose definition is this.

“Conflict free” means “DRC conflict free”, which is defined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission rules to mean products that do not contain conflict minerals (tin, tantalum, tungsten and/or gold) that directly or indirectly finance or benefit armed groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) or adjoining countries.

I don't understand the differences, but 4790k is more performance, and indeed it's cheaper for me. Any clarifications are appreciated. Thanks again.
