Hi all very new to this as I was going with a 7/8 build but have decided on an 8/OSX dual boot. The case makes this easy with the ability to switch between drives without having to install on one drive two partitions.

So the project is :-

Building a dual boot machine Win8 and MAC OSX

The components include suitable HDD power supply taking note of the latest buying guide April 2013 on this site.

The components are:-

MSI (Micro Star) X79A-GD65 (8D) Motherboard. confirmed as OSX compatible.

32 GB (4x8) DDR3 1600 RAM

Intel Xeon 2650 processor

Coolermaster Silencio 650 Mid Tower case

The question is; as the MB has no on-board graphics is to select a graphics card that will take me from
OSX 10.6.3 Snow Leopard booted from the DVD via installer up to the lastest release of OSX Mountain Lion.

I am looking for a suitable card that can take me through all i.e. will be compatible with all the Mac OS's listed.

No preference between AMD and NVIDIA here just something that will work straight out of the box.

options are one a budget card £100 (Nvidia 640) or I might go up to £250 (Nvidia 660Ti) or equiv Radeon

So which cards will work out of the box from OXS 10.6.3 onwards?

Edit I will consider looking at older cards second hand etc.

Many Thanks :)

8800gt/8800gs or a gt120, gt210/gt220 if you can find one where you are.

Many thanks will look for a GT220 :)

Hi,

I am newbie to this and thinking about upgrading my current rig.

Have you managed to get a Xeon CPU work on this MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) motherboard? Which Xeon model are you using?

Thanks a lot for your reply.
