Thanks for the clarification P1LGRIM, I honestly did have a slight doubt in my mind of its validity and may I add It's not on any of the rigs that I am running, can't afford to be blacklisted.

Let me add that this is a great guide for correctly setting up the SMBIOS even if you never intend to use iMessage. I used it to convert from Mac Pro 3,1 to iMac 12,2 for an Ivy Bridge setup I use at work.

    Thanks!

FWIW it's been my experience that the iMac 12,2 SMBIOS is the only one that allows Ivy CPU overclocking. On both my i7-3770K and i5-3570K systems, the most appropriate sysdefs are iMac 13,2 and iMac 13,1 respectively, but while these work fine in all other respects, they keep the CPU locked to stock freq. There's something in the iMac 12,2 sysdef that allows for overclocking, and I haven't experienced any drawbacks despite this being a sysdef for Sandy Macs.

Yeah, I had tried iMac 13,1 because someone recommended it, but it took my Geekbench score down and also messed up my USB ports (front ports no longer worked). So I was glad to find that 12,2 works so well and thankful for this guide to get me through the SMBIOS changes successfully.

I have never tried it so I do not know.
The latest Clover Configurator has the tools to create an iMac17,1 SMBIOS.

Try it and report back if you succeed.
