AMD RADEON HD 6870 NOT RECOGNIZED AS 6870 BUT AS 6xxx

Amd radeon hd 6870 not working after update 10.8.1

I had my Graphics card fully working and it was recognized as AMD RADEON HD 6870 but on one day it wasn't recognized anymore?!
I can't seem to figure it out.

I think this problem started when updating to 10.8.1 Could this be the problem?
If so can I downgrade back to 10.8.0 so my graphics card is working again?!
I want this graphics card to fully work.

Did you ever get this issue fixed. I am having the same problem since coping m DSDT file.

It could be when you installed Mountain Lion, you have to delete the ATI6000Controller.kext file and put it back once osx is installed.
I followed this tutorial and got mine running in 10.8.2

I just loaded 10.83 on my hack fresh.
I did this because when I was running 10.8.2 (fine mind you) I kept being asked to upgrade and lot of people had success with it. when I did it kept crashing on startup. I did a time machine roll back but since then my software has been acting strange.
Random crashes with Chrome,iMovie and other apps.

Long story short I created a 10.8.3 flash drive and loaded a fresh.
After lots of trial and error I found that my graphics card was not being loaded.
Now all is working but I cannot get resolutions over 1024X768.
Also the graphics shows as "Display 3 MB".
Looking in the system info it says no KEXT loaded for my ATI card.
I did follow the instructions to remove the kext form the flash drive and put it back after you install then run kextbeast.
This did not load it I guess. I tried to copy the file from my old 10.8.2 file when that worked but still no dice.

Success, I figured out what I was doing wrong and it was totally noob of me.
I did not have the kext file on the desktop when running kextbeast.
I was coping the file to the system/library/extensions folder.

Ok well that work now it shows as Radeon 6xxx.
that I think I can fix in the boot file.
