Hello everyone, so I've had my hackintosh built for about 4 months now and running great other then ebios read erroe but i think thats due to having a card reader installed that might not be compatible
built parts listed below:
Z87x-UD5H
8GB Ram (Probably going to upgrade to 16gb soon)
i5 4670K (not overclocked)
120gb Kingston Hyperx ssd (also have installed 128gb msata seeing if i should raid0 for boot)
2TB Portable canvio connect usb 3.0 drive
bluetooth dongle
cd/dvd drive
only using stock 4600 graphics
750w corsair power supply
osx 10.9.2
My question is I have been reading about freenas and seeing if it is worth building one if I can just make my hackintosh a file server via either osx server or the built in smb2/afp file sharing. I'm looking on buying 2-3 wd red drives and setting up a raid but seeing if I should install in hackintosh or build separate NAS?. I basically have a macbook air 11 in 2013, another windows laptop, nexus 7, and another desktop upstairs and want to be able to share across all devices fast. I bought a n750 router hooked up to hackintosh with gigabit nic (which I also have 2 intel nics on board but not sure if I can even use both for better transfer speed)
FREE NAS SEEMS PRETTY COOL, but isnt osx server the same thing with other features that I probably would not use. I'm just trying to save money not buying extra hardware if not need to do so and just buy the hard drives to install in hackintosh and finding the best advice to see what my options are.
