ALC889 audio through monitor through mDP

Hey Guys,

I've been getting some help over in "Hardware Troubleshooting" with some gpu issues which seem to be solved now, but I was directed here for some audio questions. Hoping that you can help me get this sorted as I'm so close to having this machine 100%.

I'm looking to get my audio to my monitor speakers via mini display port. I've found some info for older mountain lion systems using ioregistryexplorer but have not been able to find the info I need using sierra. I finally got audio to the monitor through HDMI so I should be on the right track, but would rather use the mDP.

My system:

OS: 10.12.6
Model: Imac 14,2
MoBo: GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (rev. 1.3)
CPU: Intel Core i7 3.41 GHz
RAM: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 6GB GDDR5
Display: Dell U3417W

finally got audio to the monitor through HDMI so I should be on the right track, but would rather use the mDP

Impossible to get "889 audio through mDP"
