Hello guys,

I really don't know if this is possible to work. I'm using BigSur 11.0.1.
I'm using a USB dongle (Orico BTA-403), it works great but the airdrop doesn't work.

My motherboard is a Z490 UD.
I've tried to do this in this order:

→ Reset Nvram Open Core
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser DisableAirDrop -bool YES
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser DisableAirDrop -bool NO
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser BrowseAllInterfaces 1
→ Reset

The airdrop does not even appear in the Go menu of the Finder, if I have it opened by the spotlight I have the following error "The operation can’t be completed because the item can’t be found."

Is there any way to have the airdrop working in this scenario?

Hi there.

You say in the thread title "without wifi card"... I'm sure you need wi-fi.

The Orico is CSR Bluetooth.

Happy to be proved wrong and learn something new though

Bluetooth may negotiate the connection but wi-fi does the heavy lifting.

Sorry.

Thanks guys, what I imagined is that airdrop could work over ethernet. This is not possible?

What I need is just to send files back and forth. Any suggestion?
Enable file sharing in system preferences on both computers that you wish to exchange files then use Finder to transfer files.

I have this option active, but my airdrop does not appear in the Finder Go menu.

I don't have "airdrop yes" in my ethernet information, I believe the first step would be to try to activate it there, don't you think?

I have the following error if I try to open the airdrop from the spotlight: The operation can’t be completed because the item can’t be found.

Forget Airdrop, you don't have it.

Use Finder on one computer and navigate to the shared folder on the other and then just drag and drop.

I can do this via smb or afp, but I need to send the files that are on the iPhone.

Are you saying that it is impossible to have airdrop running over ethernet without wifi?

Maybe you could transfer by Bluetooth.

Or connect your iPhone with a USB/Lightning cable and transfer files via a dedicated app.
