After some research I'd like some opinions...

Hey guys, first hackintosh and pc build altogether, so I've been triple checking everything and just want to make sure I'm on the right track.

I'm setting up a budget build for a relative for xmas (simple browsing, doc work, and no gaming) and have tried to stick as closely to the buyer's guide and resources as possible. So, I'd like to have your help in telling me if everything is ok, so here it is...

Motherboard: GIGABYTE H370 HD3
CPU: Intel Core i3-8100
Memory: Crucial 8GB Single DDR4 2133 MT/s (PC4-17000) DR x8 Unbuffered DIMM 288-Pin Memory
Storage: Kingston Digital A400 SSD 240GB SATA 3 2.5”
Power Supply: EVGA 550 N1
Case: Rosewill Dual Fan Micro ATX Mini Tower Computer Case Cases (FBM-05)

So everything is pretty similar to the budget build on the build list, except I've opted to go with a cheaper (but also trusted brand) power supply, smaller storage but SSD, and much cheaper case. I also didn't get the wifi adapter, is it ok if there's a free PCI-E socket?

Anyway, let me know if this is ok. Thanks guys.

You always want to run your ram in dual channel mode when running macOS. Get a 2x4 GB kit of ram. It's pretty unlikely your relative will need 32 GB of ram so no need to go with a single 8GB DIMM. It can always be upgraded to 16 GB later on by adding another matching 2 x 4GB kit of ram.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I've now corrected the ram to 2 4gb sticks.

Also, I was thinking of getting a cheap gpu for the computer but am not quite sure if it'd be worth it. My thoughts are because I've read that having a GPU that's fully supported by apple results in less problems (like the sleep function not working) and makes installation much easier. Plus, I'm hoping there'll be a tiny performance boost if any graphics based programs are used.

I was thinking specifically the GT 710... like this one:

Would it be worth it? Also, will installing it later after initial set up be difficult?

EDIT: I would like to add that i intend to do a fresh install of Mojave

What I would do is try an 8,1 SMBIOS (Mac Mini) first with the HD630 graphics only and see how well it works. Hopefully 10.14.2 will be out by the time you do the Mojave install. That way you can avoid the extra cost of a GT 710 that you may not need. I'm expecting UHD 630 graphics to work with minimal problems with 10.14.2 update.

Look at this graphics performance comparison:

The iGPU will be fine for the purpose you propose. I am using it on the new mac mini and have no issues, assuming you can get it to activate in accelerated mode (which should be possible). The H370 is not a bad chipset. I am using it. It takes some tweaking for USB, restart and shutdown.
