ok, after another asod, just finished patching my dsdt literally a minute ago, (this is my 3rd try)

but the following did not happen, i didnt notice any animated stuff on the main window of dsdt editor. i'll just assume at this point, it did finish it pretty damn fast for the eye to see.

After it is done, click Close. Do not move onto the next step right away. Instead, wait for DSDT Editor to parse the results of the patch. It will do this a few seconds after you close the patch window. You will notice the progress indicator in the lower right light up and start animating.
fyi i chose the "all.txt" option.

next i am going to do the following

When the progress indication animation stops, you are ready to compile and save your patched DSDT. Choose IASL, Compile. In the window that results, you will see several Warnings and Remarks... this is normal.
i get
zero errors
6 warnings
2 remarks
4645 optimizations.

OK, i'll now copy it to the extra folder. and run the kext wizard to update cache and permissions. then reboot.

so question ihave from today onwards, do i have jump through all those hoops again, if there updates available for the 'patches'

how do i use this with probook installer ?

are the patches the same as kext?

if i check soemthing different in the probook installer which one overides? the dsdt or the probook installer ?
complete noob to this.
thanks!

ps. suggestion for your wiki. it would be easy to follow if you broke the paragraph blocks into seperate bullet points or lines. esp in the last big para that had quite a number of actions to do. hope it helps

It will happen automatically behind the patch window before you press close, if you are not there when the patch has completed. That's why the note in the wiki about "if you walked away."

That's fine but you don't need to update cache & perms. DSDT has nothing to do with kernel extensions.

Yes, assuming you wanted the features/fixes provided by the patches.

Nothing really to do with the Probook installer. I suggest you save your custom DSDT.AML somewhere safe, for the case that you accidentally overwrite it. From here on out, you don't want to select a DSDT from the Probook installer, because you have one custom made for your laptop.

are the patches the same as kext?
No. Think of the DSDT as a computer program. The patches change the computer program in an automated way. All the changes could be accomplished by careful editing of the program's text (source code), but that would be error prone, so instead we have another program, DSDT Editor, which executes instructions (patches) to effect changes to the program automatically.

if i check soemthing different in the probook installer which one overides? the dsdt or the probook installer ?
If you run the Probook installer and choose to install one of it's DSDTs, you will overwrite your current DSDT in /Extra/dsdt.aml. It is just a file copy.

Eventually, I'm going to rewrite it for a new DSDT patching software. But that software has not been released yet, so I'm waiting on changing anything in the wiki because the whole thing is going to be different.

Any idea on a time frame for the Next version that supports 10.8.3? I unfortunately bought my version of ML a bit too late, Rehab Man showed me where to get the beta but I'm not skilled enough to mess around with it unless it was an installer package. Im still having boot problems and now my Ethernet just stopped working. As RHM said i could have some hardware issues But Ethernet was working great and then I rebooted and now it cant be seen.... not a huge issue as I have the wifi+BT card on its way.

Hope to hear soon

The beta of ProBook Installer 6.1b4 is already out. Follow the sticky guide here but use the Probook Installer v6.1b4.

Quick tip for setting your desired color profile system-wise ( that applies for login screen, for example ) - you have to enable root account (how to: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11331), log into root and choose the correct color profile for your display from there. Log out and boom - no more extra blue tint (as it was in my case) on login screen. You can disable root account after that for your safety.
