Hello everyone.

First post on the forum but i learn a lot from this forum.

I already have a hakintosh I build up in 2011 and this one started aging.
So I need to build a new hakintosh to run my Pro Tools system.
I have a firewire interface but i plan to buy an HDX Pro Tools systeme so it would be or in Thunderbolt or in PCIe.

I post the component list , based primarily on Tony Buyer's guide.
If something is wrong or could be cheaper or more performant let me know !!!

CPU :
Intel Skylake Processeur Core i7-6700K 4.0 GHz 8Mo Cache Socket 1151 Boîte (BX80662I76700K)

Motherboard : Gigabyte Z170x-UD5 TH

Cooler : Corsair Hydro H60

PSU: Corsair RMX750 80 Plus Gold

RAM:
G.SKILL TridZ K2 Mémoire RAM D4 3200 C16 32 Go

Case: bequiet! Silent Base 600

Graphic Card: EVGA GT740SC 1059MHz 2048Mo

Sedna Firewire PCIe

I already have ssd and hhd.

Any comment are welcome !

Thanks !

Hi Ulii

Thanks for your replies .
This configuration is a bit expensive ,
I would like to reduce the cost but this is not obvious because I want a stable and powerful configuration.

the Mobo :
I first thought take the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3 interesting because less expensive and possessing an integrated intel gpu but I would need later thunderbolt . If someone have another motherboard To suggest ????

RAM :
I run lots of simultaneous plugs and Pro Tools systems using the Disk Cache feature that loads the entire session into RAM for lightning speed performance.
So 32Go seems a good choice.

If you're not planning to use a graphics card more power hungry than a GT740 you can easily get by with a 500-600W power supply. Stay with a quality brand like Seasonic or Corsair. This one looks like the best deal right now at Amazon.fr

I would also forget the AIO liquid cooler and go with a Noctua tower air cooler. There are a number of good options for about the cost of an H60 AIO. This is an audio recording build, why would you want the noisy H60 pump and fans constantly running ?

This is a good 60 Euro choice if you won't be overclocking:

Buy a matched 32GB ram kit that is on the supported (QVL) list for your Gigabyte board. Find the list under the support section on their website. Very important to do this.

FYI I Tweeted at Gigabyte a while back and they said the USB 3.1 port on that board, would be TB enabled as well.

Thanks for your advice

DavidPye :
For the use of USB 3.1 port to Thunderbolt i must look at that , i really want something easy and OOB.

trs96 :

I prefer to have a more powerfull PSU to enable to upgrade my setup (maybe a more powerfull graphic card in the futur )
And i've a lot of hdd and other thing connect to the mac.

Nice advice for the cooler ,for me the air cooling was the quietest , apparently this is not necessarily the case ;)
So i will go to the Noctua NH-U12S

The most complicated part , the choice of RAM .After checking my first choice is not in the list for my board...
And it's not easy to find a kit of 2x16Go who is compatible and available.
It's more easy to find some 4x8Go kit , but i want easily put 32Go additional.

I find this :
G.SKILL RipV K2 Mémoire RAM D4 2800 C15 32 Go
Is it good enough? good choice?

Thanks

That ram by G.Skill is not listed on the QVL.

This version is: https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B00Q6AWXLM/?tag=tonymacx8607-21

If you're going for 64 GB then you should start with that amount in a kit rather than adding more later.
There are no 64 GB kits for the Z170X listed on the QVL on Gigabyte.com. They are all 128 GB. So you'd
have to do more research to find a 64 GB kit that would work for that board.

it's really complicated choice of RAM.
I can't afford 64Go right now, my budget is at the maximum.
I did some research on the forum and what i learn :
-not recommended to buy 32Go and put another 32Go later ( question of paired RAM??)
-I read that it was necessary to have 3200 ram speed for a perfect use with i7 6400k ....??

In this cas i found G.SKILL RipV K4 Mémoire RAM D4 3200 C16 32 Go
F4-3200C16Q-32GVK and its listed on the QVL.

If there is no difference between 3200 or 2800 your proposition would be a good choice , cheaper

There's no reason that I know of that you'd need the DDR4 3200 ram as opposed to slightly lower clocked ram. If the 2800 kit is on the QVL it should work with no problems with that CPU. I'd go with that. In real world use, rather than synthetic bench-marking or obscure theories, I really doubt it will make any difference. Put the saved 60 Euros into some other area of your build.

If you want a lower latency C15 and 1.25V ram you could go with this kit
https://www.amazon.fr/Ripjaws-F4-2800&tag=tonymacx8607-21 C15q-32gvr-DDR4 2800 MHz-mémoire-Kit - Image/dp/B013J7ZUCS
for not much more money. May be the best way to go. CAS latency is important too.
