I often hear people ask "what can I edit 4k video with?" and I feel like the question really should be "what can I RENDER 4k video with quickly?"
You can make a cheap laptop edit 4k video well if you are using 540p proxy files. With that said - rendering times won't benefit from a proxy workflow so that is the real crux to the speed of your delivery pipeline. I know less about rendering in FCPX than premiere, but while premiere takes some speed from CUDA / GPU acceleration it is mainly a processor intensive activity.
