I followed the instructions here: http://lnx2mac.blogspot.com/ .
This works well and runs quiet.
----
I followed the instructions at lnx2mac. Got the firmware. Expanded it on a Windoze box and put it on a FAT32 memory stick and updated the firmware to f11 w/o booting an OS.
Followed the BIOS optimization on the site, but skipped the Memory voltage adjustment. Looks like my memory is old and much higher voltage than what lnx2mac used, so I left it alone.
On the 3rd step downloading Os 10.4.6 Combo was by far the longest step - should have done that earlier. The links on the blog there take you to the latest versions. The iBoot for NVidia is really just called iBoot.
4th step went fine. Partitioned GUID and my usual couple of partitions (250GB for OS and user data, large partion to hold video & other media, small 20GB partition to play with new OS, etc).
5th step went OK, once we figured out the non-standard interface on Multibeast. Several of the top level options are greyed out with grey arrows. Even though they are grey, the arrow will expand and show lower level options.
My board has the ALC888b, so I checked that instead of what is shown there. And I chose a Mac Pro w/i7 instead of the iMac i7 shown. Also to get the onboard IDE to work you need to also select the JMicronATA driver - we actually used a newer one for some reason, but Multibeast will have it soon.
That was the software build and it went really easy.
Installing Windows7 to an old IDE drive was much harder. Turns out Windoze 7 won't install with the Mac drive plugged in.
We used the stock CPU cooler for awhile, but it was somewhat noisy and very annoying - it varied speed a lot. That is when I went out and got the Mugen2 - much quieter and takes up a LOT of space, but it fit fine.
