A little confused about my first build

Hi ,

I'm considering the custom mac mini deluxe February build to use as a daw, but there's a few aspects I'd like understand clearly, if any one could help that would be much appreciated.

The recommended mother board:GA-Z77N-WIFI , has only one pci express slots. Could I use a firewire card such as this :

Also, does that mean I will not be able to use the suggested video card, and will have to use the on board video?

The answer to both of your questions is Yes.

Depending on which case you use you might need this version of that FW card though: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002S53IG8/?ie=UTF8&tag=tonymacx86com-20

It has a longer bracket for mounting the card.

I was intending to use the case that is recommended with the build, the BitFenix Prodigy

Do you mean I need to get the firewire card you are recommending?

It looks to me like the BitFenix uses cards with a regular-sized bracket, if so, then the card that I linked would be the card that you want.

Someone more familiar with that case would need to answer your question. You might also check out other BitFenix builds here to see what other cards people have used for comparison.
