9800GT & HDMI Monitor @ 2048x1152 Issue

Just a quick query: has anyone been successful at getting an HDMI monitor, using an HDMI port, to function correctly at 2048x1152? If so, did you need to force the resolution in the boot args or some other clever way?

My 9800GT will correctly display the 2048x1152 resolution using it's DVI port, but it will not work for HDMI. It simply displays no output while the machine continues to function.

This wouldn't be a problem except I'm trying to get two monitors at this resolution working through both the DVI and HDMI ports.

It's also worth noting that yes, dual monitors work for me with two monitors that have a smaller resolution. HDMI also works by itself with a monitor at 1680x1050 resolution.

Right now I'm using DVI + VGA for two monitors.

I have the same setup as you with I'm guessing the same monitor (SP2309W). I couldn't get the HDMI working so I could have 2x digital connections. I had to use the VGA for my 2nd monitor. Didn't make much of a difference.
