while I'm patiently waiting for 8700t (35w) I think about if 8700k (95w) can be clocked down to the same TDP

will use on ASRock Fatal1ty Z370 Gaming-ITX / AC without gpu

anyone who has experience ?

If you're looking to put a K variant in a Cube, I think you're asking for thermal troubles. Since you're not using a discrete GPU you may be safe, but I wouldn't use it long-term.

The reason for my consideration is that my current CPU (3770k) uses mostly less than 5% of maximum performance and rarely gets quite hot

Ah gotcha. You could always give it a shot and monitor it at the very least.

but that would mean putting effort into making a new Mac Mini that doesn't just pull crazy high margins!

(seriously, that would definitely make a sweet mini)

I have a 8700T running in my current project as seen here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/neilharts-scratch-build-sff-case-project-my-way-21.250089/ in post 10. This "T" version appears to be a great chip with 6 cores and 12 threads running. I will get around to bench marks when time allows (maybe next week).

I have built systems with Sky Lake and Kaby Lake "T" versions and have not been disappointed.

Good luck with your cube,
Neil
