Been going through the available options, and I was originally planning to go for a 460 gtx, but seeing the problems with them I decided I'm better off going for a better supported/less problematic ATI model. I'm running a 5770 I'm borrowing from a friend right now, but I'd like something with a bit more power when I buy something. From what I've read the 5850 looks like a good choice as far as a mix of price/performance/noise/heat goes. Couple of questions before I pull the trigger though

1) Are there any compatibility concerns with this card I'm missing, all seems to be pretty smooth with it but just want to be sure.

2) Any brands I should be looking for or avoiding? Eyeing the Diamond 5850 right now

http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Radeon-HD ... 800&sr=1-3

and last, is this the best option I've got around $200, seems to be, just want to be sure. Thanks in advance.

Heads up there are a few 5870 cards on newegg for just $20 more than the card you linked from Amazon (and they are both on the Wiki)

If you get the right one, it is a great card. There's at least one on the wiki for supported cards. I'm saving up for a 5870 at the moment. For Windows - the 5850 is on par or slightly faster than the GTX 285. The GTX 285 is often slightly faster than the 460, so nothing wrong with the 5850. (plus it's DX11)

Thanks for the heads up but I actually found the 5850 I linked on amazon on the egg for $140 after rebate, so definitely going with that. I'm obviously interested in the performance but I'm also trying to keep the computer (relatively) quiet and from what I hear the 5870 is quite a bit louder than the 5850 (which is already louder than the 5770 I'm using and think is too loud lol).

Sapphire 5770 1GB (HD-577X-ZNFC)
XFX5850 Toxic 1GB GDDR5

XFX 5870 1GB (HD-587X-ZNFC)
Gigabyte 5870 1 GB (GV-R587OC-1GD)

XFX ATI 5850 works out of the box by just using the new Chameleon - ATI Experimental in MutliBeast.
