Yes, 4530S guide is still relevant. The hardest part is removing top cover, laying down the cable and making sure nothing is pinched.
I've got B156HW01 .V4 matte but some prefer .V7 which is glossy.

Screen is gorgeous but would consider 1600x900 resolution if fonts are too small for you.

In US/Canada the best source to get LCD screens is laptopscreen. Screen can be checked for "zero dead pixels" if needed before shipping.

There is some discussion of this in this thread: http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook/88212-4540s-lcd-screen-1080p-replacement-2.html#post591214

Read it and the responses. And follow the link BigDonkey posts...

Bottom line: We won't know until someone tries. It depends on whether the motherboard supports a dual-link cable (B-channel LVDS).

Yes, I can confirm that this cable 50.4RY03.001 will in fact work on the 4440S HP Probook Laptop. Although I only went with a 1600X900 screen, I'm amazed with the color, clarity, brightness, contrast and every other aspect of this screen. The upgrade is well worth it.

That is awesome news for 4440s owners! That a screen upgrade is possible will make the laptop that much more attractive.

I'm doing it now.

I have the 4540s with 10.8.5 running perfectly,
the screen (B156HW01 V.4 - okay, fine, the clone LP156WF1),
and the right cable (50.4RY03.001 LVDS).

I have the whole thing taken apart
working from the Probook 4540 Maintenance And Service Guide.

I'm stuck on getting the bezel open
PDF Page 109 (printed page 101).

Has anybody done this?
Does tonymacx86 have a chat room?

Maybe my 4540s service manual is out-of-date, as I see the display assembly removal procedures on page 112 (as printed on the page).

I've done it with my 4530s. From the looks of the 4540s, it might be similar. This part is one of the most unnerving aspects of the disassembly because of the way the bezel snaps off. Do you have the hinge covers removed and the two screws (under the "rubber screws") near the hinges removed?

I got the bezel face off and the new screen in there correctly.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the Hinge Caps back on.
How the wires get around or through the hinges to get the caps back on is very confusing.
There's no picture of that.

The whole process is scary.
We need to make a guide with pictures.

The only thing I can remember is they go on rather difficult but in exactly the opposite way you removed them. Just be patient and you'll figure it.

I know... I was thinking the same thing when I put mine back together... Probably would have been a good idea to take a photo of the routing before removing them. But just think about how the hinge moves and route them accordingly.

I did it - I got it all back together and it boots.
I brought it up in safe mode the first time.
The video looked crazy but I could tell it was 1080p via screen sharing.
Then I booted with just the SSDT and the installer built a new DSDT for hi-res.
Boom! Works! Wow!

It was scary taking it apart but apparently I put it back together correctly.
It works 100%.
