4540S LCD Screen

@Rehabman
Yes, I'm afraid you might run into the same problem liposuction had with his 4430S
http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook-4530s/37084-upgrading-laptop-screen-1080p-18.html#post242396

Could be. Thanks for the info. Probably not worth pursuing then... I really want something thinner/lighter anyway.

But there are very few 13/14" laptops w/ 1600x900 panels. When I was in BestBuy the other day and saw the Lenovo p400 I was surprised and intrigued. It is 1600x900 14", quite thin, backlit keyboard, i7 priced at $800. Then two problems: really heavy for its size (5.3#), and the keyboard seems like it is mounted to a trampoline (and you thought the ProBook keyboard had flex!)

I'm still going to take a look at the Yoga. I could play with it to decide for 90 days (Costco return policy). It has a nice display, has touch (that might be fun to make work on OS X), has a pretty slick hinge, and is fairly light.

BTW, sorry for hijacking your thread... I'll go away and think about it for a while...

Let me try what happens if i use that kext, if it doesn't work i would suggest we (u) use 01660009 for HD 4x40s series.
For me it works either way it is defined as DP or HDMI, but i use a DP to HDMI adapter if that changes anything?
Anyways i will attach your kext in the 6470b thread and have some other people test it too, and if there will be no problems we can use the same kext mod, otherwise we will split it in 2 groups 01660009 for HD 4x40s and 01660008 for 6x70b, reasonable right?

When you say "it works" is that including "hdmi audio" ?

I haven't tested 01660009 only 01660008 so far.

Yes including audio.
Of course 01660009 wont work as it is, but we can patch it the same way we did the 01660008 and should work fine, the script you used might need as little modification as changing 8 to 9, will test.

EDIT: as i said, you can use this script to patch the 01660009 and try using it:
Code:
sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x09\x00\x66\x01\x01\x03\x03\x03\x00\x00\x00\x04\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x20\x10\x07\x00\x00\x10\x07\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\xF0\xD9\x05\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x02\x00\x00\x00\x30\x00\x00\x00\x02\x05\x00\x00\x00\x04\x00\x00\x07\x01\x00\x00\x03\x04\x00\x00\x00\x04\x00\x00\x07\x01\x00\x00|\x09\x00\x66\x01\x01\x03\x03\x03\x00\x00\x00\x04\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x20\x10\x07\x00\x00\x10\x07\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\xF0\xD9\x05\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x05\x03\x00\x00\x02\x00\x00\x00\x30\x02\x00\x00\x03\x04\x00\x00\x00\x04\x00\x00\x07\x01\x00\x00\x04\x06\x00\x00\x00\x08\x00\x00\x81\x00\x00\x00|' ~/Desktop/AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleIntelFramebufferCapri

It does work. Thanks. Maybe it just me but it seems little more responsive than 01660008

I made a little change in the HDMI patch, instead of the 81 i set 06, because watching the vanilla AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext that is what Apple uses on their HDMI connectors. Give it a try, for me it works (talking mostly about audio, since that seems to be the most fragile thing), but it seems i am a bad test subject, since all seem to work for me. (01660009)

This one works too, HDMI + audio + hotplug

BigDonkey, can you explain how installation on the 4540s differs from the guide here? http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-proboo...isplay-upgrade-1080p-update-2012-06-30-a.html

Should I buy this cable? http://www.chipsetsupplier.com/htm/... 4570S 4730S LCD Video Cable 50.4ry03.001.htm

What screen would you suggest? Which color profiles, kexts, etc. should I use? I can't really follow the discussion in this thread... is any setup confirmed to work?

I'd really like a better screen but I don't want to brick my laptop... I'd appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks. :)

The process will be very similar since these laptops are constructed the same way. Refer to the service manual for instructions.

Looks like your link is the same as the one BigDonkey has just a couple of posts prior...

I think people have best luck with the AUO v4. No kexts are required, just a (slightly) different DSDT patch. All the instructions are in the 1080p thread you link to.
