Hello all, as the title states my machine will randomly display graphical glitches which coincide with a system lock up. This problem only happens with I have 16GBs (2x8GB) in the machine. I've done a fair bit of research, but haven't found anything similar yet.

Things I've tried:
  1. Rebuild DSDT (f4 at clover Boot screen, then ProBook Installer CE)
  2. MemTestx86 - Passed 3 times.
  3. Rebuilt SSDT (Not that it matters)
  4. Reset Bios to defaults

Some users report that Graphical Glitches can be fixed by installing fan control software, but that just doesn't make sense to me. I'm currently using the Quiet patch by rehab man. Perhaps tomorrow I'll try another fan mode.

I've also read that this machine can have issues with 16GBs of ram, so I'm really hoping this isn't related to that. Although I guess since it only happens with 16GBs it could be a good indication.

It would just be cool to pair the 2630QM I bought with 16GBs of ram. The 4530s can be a beast for the price.

Specs of Machine (if it matters):
  • Some 2nd Gen i5 - Soon to be a 2630QM
  • 16/8GB DDR3
  • 500GB 850 Evo SSD
  • 1080P Display Upgrade as posted on here
  • Latest HP Bios

According to the HP 4530s service manual (you can download from hp.com), the 4530s does not support 16GB of RAM. 8GB is the stated max.

Heh. I believe I've seen that posted as well, yet it "works." Guess I'll just send it back then. Thanks again fro your help rehabman.

I always assume there's a reason they don't recommend it...

I know that Windows has trouble with it, so it is probably a BIOS issue. They could solve with a BIOS update, but why should they with such an old laptop...

It is what it is. It's what I get for buying a 5 year old machine! Ha.
