I needed a new work station for my audio production studio and decided to build a hackintosh - my first one! Check out my blog post here for more info

I followed the CustoMac Mac Pro build for 2012 hardware very closely to ensure I would have as stable of a system as was possible. Everything is working just fine at the moment running OSX 10.8.1

I used a very simple Multi Beast Install as suggested by Tonymacx86 here. TRIM was not automatically enabled even after selecting it in MB. The only way I could enable it was through terminal. I followed this advice and it worked immediately.

I primarily run Logic 9 as my DAW and it is functioning very nicely! I'm really looking forward to using this rig for production. Currently I am working on music and sound effects for an iOS game that should be released in a few months and I am enjoying my new set-up. I will also post photos of my studio in the next few weeks and keep the community apprised of what software/hardware I am using.

Audio Production Hardware:

Apogee Duet 2 Sound interface

Korg K series MIDI Controller

Focusrite VRM Box Digital to Analogue Converter

Yamaha HS80's Monitors

Beyer Dynamic DT1350's

Thanks to Tonymacx86.com and the community for helping me!

*i7-3770K GA-Z77-UP5 TH for Audio Production

I'm looking to build a similar computer for audio production as well. I was wondering if you were using the built in graphics on the motherboard or if you have a graphics card for it. Also do you use more then one monitor with this set up?

Me also maybe interested in this build, also for audio / music production.
Wondering if Thunderbolt works just fine for you, cause i really want to use the UAD Apollo Thunderbolt audio interface with it.

Best,

Hi

Is your onboard Firewire working. How are connecting the interface. are you using any specific Firewire PCI card. Have you made any specific setup to start the firewire card.

I have built a system with same specs.. the setup was a breeze and the internal audio shows up... but the Firewire doesnt show up.

I have a Digi 003 interface and have installed the latest drivers for the same but it just doesnt show up in the AudioMidi setup.

Please help I spent a lot of money on getting this and now its just a box.

Thanks very much

I use my machine only for Audio production.
Regards

I haven't tried the on-board FW, yet. I have a Thunderbolt to FW800 adapter, and it works great. Most of my current external drives and docking station have FW800. Additionally, I'm not planning to use the internal (motherboard) FW connector at this time because Thunderball's case doesn't have a front panel FW port.

I got a TI chip Firewire PCI card and rebuilt the system. Installed the Digi drivers. The Digi 003 interface is now visible in the audio media setup. Installed pro tools 10. The Digi 003 interface shows up but when I hit play it gives a buffer size overload message. I have tried changing all the buffer sizes no use.

I configured Win 7 on the same machine in another drive. Protools works and the songs play very nicely.. so the hardware per se is communicating.

I am missing something in the setup. Please help

Thanks
