1. Download this Python script: https://github.com/corpnewt/gibMacOS

Select Code and then Download ZIP. Place the gibMacOS folder on your desktop.

2. The video demo will show you how to run the gibMacOS.command script and download Big Sur.

Even though this video is under 2 minutes, the complete process may take 30 minutes or more.

3. Make the installer USB with createinstallmedia method.

For those that prefer a GUI and an automated USB creation method, check out OpenCore Legacy Patcher 0.4.1 or newer. https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/releases

Minimum OS requirement to run the app is 10.10 Yosemite. You can also download all Monterey release versions.

IMPORTANT: Once the download reaches 100% do not close OCLP. Wait till it prompts for the Admin password for permission to place the InstallAssistant.pkg into your Applications folder. If you don't do this you'll lose the whole 12GB download.

If your Intel Mac is from approximately 2012 or older you won't be able to download Big Sur from the Mac App Store. Follow the instructions in the video above in post #1. This will allow you to download Big Sur directly from Apple on your older Intel Core 2 Duo system. Will also work on a 1st/2nd/3rd generation Intel Core i based Mac.

The reason you'll use gibMacOS is not to upgrade your older Mac. It's purpose is to allow the download of macOS so that you can create a USB installer to perform the install on a PC to create a hackintosh machine.

gibMacOS can also be used on newer supported Macs if you are having trouble with the download via the Mac App Store. Also note that Mojave, High Sierra and Catalina are available for download using this method. Apple pulls those from the MAS after so many months/years and then you cannot download them any longer.

Q: What if I don't have an eligible Mac or a working Hackintosh to download Big Sur ?

A:
You can use gibMacOS on a Windows computer and run the .bat file to download and then make a recovery installer.

See: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...-installer-using-opencore.296375/post-2108796

For experienced Linux users: See the following video for an example using Linux Mint.

Q: What if I need a version of macOS/OS X older than High Sierra ?

A:
There is a way you can also get those by creating a Recovery installer.

See this from the Dortania Guide on Github.

Here's how to make your installer in Windows:

Please do not duplicate posts or they will get removed. Chose one and stick to that. I believe you had an answer on the standalone thread you posted.
