When this happened to me I just formatted the drive and called it a day.

Right, that is always an option, but 1) you do no troubleshooting with a format, 2) you end up with no FileVault active and 3) you lost data. Might work for you but certainly not for me and perhaps not for everybody.

it is not an option to lose data that is why I do not keep important data on my OS drive. I tried to Decrypt it but after like 6/hrs it was just easier to format. For me I really have no reason to need my data encrypted I kind of just enabled it because I like to try stuff. Then I made the mistake of updating the OS it broke my password to log in but it still worked for FV.. Anyways like I said after 6/hrs of trying to decrypt the drive I formatted it and moved on.
