2560x1440 resolution HD4600

I am using HDMI 1.4a and it it supported up to 4k.

So what has to be done to make the Hackintosh output 1440p via HDMI? If I use SwitchRes (IIRC) then it upscales 1080p to 1440p but that isn't enough.

Your failure is that you didn't read your manual. Assuming you actually have a

Then you should read the manual. Any resolution over 1920 x 1080 can only be attained via the DP or DVI ports. See page 24 of the manual were it specifies which connections to use to get to 1440P.

Many 27" 1440P will only do 1080P over HDMI (see the Dell 2713HM as a prime example).

You will need to use Dual DVI or DP to get 1440P.

Actually, you got it wrong. See Post #7; no DL DVI, DVI-I only. DP yes.

My post was to explain what his MONITOR needed to use. His motherboard has other limitations. He is questioning why the HDMI 1.4 port on his motherboard wouldn't give him 1080P on his monitor....

Thanks for explaining, well it looks like I have a non-solveable problem then. Monitor requires DVI or Displayport but motherboard only supports 1440p via HDMI :(

My iiyama same has yours came with a display port cable so just use a jack for audio and you re set!
Thanks to all problem solved for me.

i have a z87mx-d3h here now connected with an benq monitor.

but i dont geht the 2560x1440 to work on hdmi

on displayport (what i prefer) i get a black screen - no connection.

dont know what to do :(

I have a Gigabyte H97M-D3H (HDMI max. resolution of 4096x2160@24Hz or 2560x1600@60Hz) with an Intel Core i5 4570 processor, connected to an Asus PB278Q monitor (DP,HDMI and DVI Dual link: max. resolution supported 2560x1440@60Hz)
My motherboard doesn't have DP, but has HDMI and, as I said, it is prepared to support this resolution, but Yosemite let me select 1080p only.

Can someone help me to get the 2560x1440 resolution? Thanks

I'm having the same problem. I have:

4790K
Z97-d3h

The motherboard only outputs above 1080 on the HDMI port. The monitor accepts 2560x1080 on all inputs (HDMI, DVI, D-PORT).

I only get 1080p option in Displays preference pane, but that sets the display to 1920x1080 meaning it looks stretched.

Seems this issue has been affecting real mac users as well, there's lots of people complaining they've lost resolutions since upgrading to Yosemite.

For example:

Hopefully something will be done about it!

I've got a similar problem. I just completed my first Hackintosh build and have most of the bugs worked out. It’s running Yosemite and Windows 8.1. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H.

My Asus PB278Q monitor runs just fine on the Windows side up to and including its 2560x1440 native resolution. Unfortunately, on the Mac side the max resolution I can get is 1920x1080. Under Display Preferences I have three choices in the System Preferences - Display “Scaled” menu: 1920x1080, 1600x900, and 1280x720. The Display Preferences window shows “ASUS PB278” in the heading, so it apparently recognizes my monitor, but the resolution is not at all as high as it should be.

The motherboard specs show that the HDMI port can reach 2560x1600 at 60Hz. Note that this mobo does not have a DisplayPort output (that was a solution for some other folks on this forum who had similar problems). DVI can only go up to 1920x1200 on the mobo, so that doesn't help. I tried turning on and off the “1080p Display Mode” checkbox in the MultiBeast Customize menu, but that seems to make no difference.

I'm very anxious for this problem to be resolved. Any other suggestions?

Count me in as another experiencing this exact same problem.

Running a 4790K and using the internal HD4600 graphics on a Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H, which according the the manufacturer is capable of running 1440p through the HDMI port.

My monitor is an Asus PB278Q.

Anyone have thoughts on using SwitchResX as a workaround until we can figure out what is going on? My only concern is and I hope someone can answer this. When using SwitchResX are you actually getting 1440p resolution or is it just scaling up 1080p to 1440p?

Edit: Well I fixed my problem by installing a EVGA GTX 750 Ti SC, I kinda gave up on the HD4600 and wanted a little extra graphics power just because. As for my concern on using SwitchResX, it has been confirmed. The moment that I booted into 1440p using my new graphics card I knew that SwitchResX was simply upscaling 1080p to 1440p not displaying it natively.
