In what might be considered a break from tradition, at least for Apple, they have drip fed a little info regarding their longer term plans for the Mac Pro, iMacs and a new apple display. No technical stuff to get your teeth into, but at least an acknowledgement from Apple that they are working on this stuff and that not all users were so impressed with the previous Mac Pro model.

They have also given the existing Mac Pro a minor bump :

Quotes from Phil Schiller include :

'With regards to the Mac Pro, we are in the process of what we call “completely rethinking the Mac Pro”. We’re working on it. We have a team working hard on it right now, and we want to architect it so that we can keep it fresh with regular improvements, and we’re committed to making it our highest-end, high-throughput desktop system, designed for our demanding pro customers.

As part of doing a new Mac Pro — it is, by definition, a modular system — we will be doing a pro display as well. Now you won’t see any of those products this year; we’re in the process of that. We think it’s really important to create something great for our pro customers who want a Mac Pro modular system, and that’ll take longer than this year to do.'

There are also several comments regarding graphics which I thought were very interesting.

Further quoted from Phil Schiller is that new iMacs are in the pipeline for for release this year including

'“configurations of iMac specifically with the pro customer in mind and acknowledging that our most popular desktop with pros is an iMac.”

Interesting times ahead for sure....

Here's the most promising statement that I've read about this:

The 2018 Mac Pros will have modular designs, making them easier to upgrade, and ship alongside a new Apple-branded "pro display."

Hard to believe, an easily upgradeable Mac Pro. Who would have guessed this from Apple ?

It'll be interesting if they use Nvidia or ATI Radeon Graphics with the New Mac Pro.

Well from previous, we could expect workstation class GPU's in the Mac Pro at least. It will be interesting seeing what goes in the iMacs though.

Maybe Pascal support. But knowing apple it'll probably be ATI lol.

It appears that the message has finally reached the ears of those who matter at Apple... Better late than never...

The comment from Phil about modularity has me excited as well. My only concern is how they will be pricing these systems. I don't expect them to be cheap, but I hope they are priced competitively compared to competitors such as HP and Dell.
