2006 mac mini mods??

Hi, has anyone attempted this? I did some research but only found the newer ones. Am I missing something here?

After looking further on this I decided to build one and found a case I love!! Unfortunately, the case is out of stock! Here's a link:

This morning I found a board that could fit in the mac mini 2007. It's the Gigabyte GA-H110MSTX-HD3. My current concern is about the dc in connector. Does someone knows the size of it? and I can't seem to find how much power I should send in there. What I would like to do is keep the original mac mini power brick to supply this one.

Any thoughts?

I'm very interested in this, too. I have a 2006 Mac Mini that is in its box collecting dust. I also have an iMac G4 with the swivel arm that could be used for this board.

Hi Neilhart, thank you for the answer. That helped a lot but now I have some more questions. Would you recommend 12v or 19v? And should I adapt wattage accordingly to voltage?

I saw an adapter on mini-box: http://www.mini-box.com/12v-10A-AC-DC-Power-Adapter

What do you think about this one? Or there is the original mac mini that runs 18.5v at 110W...

How do I know the wattage needed before I try it? I checked on a power supply calculator but I suspect they assume I will use a standard ATX one.Just in case I'll give you the list of parts:

-motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H110MSTX-HD3
-CPU: I3-7100 Kaby Lake at 51W
-memory: Crucial 2x4Gb 2133 mhz sodium
-SSD: kingston m.2 2280 120Gb
-PCI-E: Apple bluetooth/ wifi card
-1 noctua fan for cpu

The Gigabyte GA-H110MSTX-HD3 can accept either 12VDC or 19VDC and the one that you identified should work.

How is this build going? Good or Bad?

I'm currently in the process of using Streacom's F1CWS Evo for a similar build.

Actually haven't decided yet with way it's gonna be. After looking around for a while, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna use the original apple case. I'm currently looking at the deskmini because it's a "complete" case andI think it would be easy to fit in the mac mini enclosure. I just need to pull the trigger, but if I look back at my G5 mod, it could take a while before I do.

Hey guys! Still looking at my options but I definitely want to build that Mac mini case. I'll start with a deskmini 110H and go from there. I don't think it could be possible but I would like to keep the dvd drive and I was thinking about a radial setup for the cpu. Does anyone here have experience with those?


The reason I'm thinking about this style is because the location of the cpu would be close to match the original exhaust of the mac mini:




Am I missing something or that could work? Any suggestion welcomed!
