So I'm new to hackintosh, and I've never built a PC before. I just decided it looked like a fun thing to do. I'm a gamer, but I record so therefore I do some video editing. I learned to video edit on an iMac, on iMovie, so I am familiar with OS X. I will be dual booting Window and OS X, I will install Snow Leopard with iBoot, then install Mavericks with Clover, then install windows onto a separate hard drive. I need it to be quiet, my mic is very sensitive and my friends complain about my PC being loud, I need wifi, and form factor does matter to me, as I take my PC to my friends house and I move it around a lot anyway. Future-proofing also really matters, as this will probably need to last me a good 2.5 years. Also Thunderbolt and SATA Express both matter to me.

Build 1:

CPU: i7 4770k ($269.99)
Cooler: NH-U9B SE2 ($37.51)
Motherboard: GA-H97M-D3H ($89.99)
Ram: Crucial 16gb kit ($139.99)
SSDs: 2x PNY XLR8 120gb ($59.00 Each)
GPU: EVGA GTX 760 ACX 2gb ($234.99)
Case: Aluminum Silverstone GD04S ($99.00)
PSU: Corsair RM 450w ($79.99)
OD: Samsung SN-208FB/BEBE ($18.99)
Wifi Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 ($38.57)
Case fans: 3x NF-P12 ($11.99 Each)

Pros: i7, Silence, Future-proof(H97), 2 SSDs, Really nice looking case IMO, Small form factor, Silence optimized PSU, Optical Drive.

Cons: Limited upgradeability due to form factor, No SATA Express/M.2, Questionable compatibility due to chipset.

Build 2:

CPU: i5 4670k ($189.99)
Cooler: NH-U9B SE2 ($37.51)
Motherboard: GA-Z97X-UD7 TH ($215.99)
Ram: Crucial 16gb kit ($139.99)
SSD: PNY XLR8 120gb ($59.00)
GPU: EVGA GTX 760 ACX 2gb ($234.99)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White ($94.99)
PSU: Corsair CSM 650w ($89.99)
Wifi Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 ($38.57)
Case fans: NF-F12 ($14.99)
FD-FAN-SSR2-120 ($9.98 Each)

Pros: Silence, Thunderbolt 2, SATA Express, Higher wattage PSU, Better IO, Overclockable.

Cons: i5, Questionable compatibility(Z97), 1 SSD instead of 2, Would have to buy another drive for Windows, Much larger case, Don't like the case as much, Louder PSU.

P.S. Sorry for the super long post.

I might switch the R4 to the titanium grey version, it looks a bit better.

If you're interested in getting into overclocking, I'd wait and get the new haswell refresh. Look up i7-4790k "devils canyon". I'm dumping my 4770k for that since they'll be using a new TIM that should let us reach 5Ghz overclocks. It's rumored to launch June 2nd. Not sure what your budget is, but if you like to game I'd look into a 780ti for your GPU. People are dumping them cheap on eBay in anticipation of the new Maxwell cards.

Budget is about $1200, leaving about $250 for GPU. The lowest I could fine for a 780 (No TI) was about $400. I did find a 770 for about $120 though, I'll probably try to snag that. Then I could buy better other components.

770 is a solid card. Fastest GK104 made, but if I could swing it I'd do everything I could to get that GK110 chip. They still carry a bigger price tag since Maxwell hasn't shown up yet, but if I could wait I would. We've got a few goodies coming out this summer. The 780 is a 1080p gaming monster that should keep you happy longer than a 770.

If I can find a 780 for cheap then I'll go with it, but if I can't then I'll just go with the 770, because I don't do any really intensive gaming, skyrim and BO2 are probably the most hardware intensive game I play. Though space engineers is pretty tasking too.
