I just started looking into this hacintosh thing, as my 07 mac isn't cutting it for my video editing, but I also have this gaming right currently that is not doing what I want in the gaming world either. So, I'm thinking of turning it into two machines, and one I was going to try and hackintosh.

My current rig is amd fx-8120, crossfire 7870s, and m5a97 mobo, and i know amd doesn't work. The deal is....

I can get a dirt cheap I5-2500k from a friend, and I plan to steal at least one of the 7870s out of the rig for it, so I'm looking to see what mobos will work out for this. If possible, I would like to try and crossfire in the hackintosh, but if I can't I'll live with it.

So, whats the latest OS i can use and what mobos will support the i5-2500k and 7870 and can be hackintosh-ed? I know if i keep looking around and reading I might find this info on my own but I might as well ask too and see if I can get the answer faster that way.

Either way any feedback would be wonderful. Thanks!

Hate to be the first to give you bad news, but there's no crossfire support in OS X. Furthermore, the AMD 7xxx are not supported either.

As far as motherboards for that i5 2500K, you'd probably be best off with one of the Z68 based boards that have entries in the DSDT database, though not too many of them are still available anymore.

-______- well that sucks. I did read something there about the 7xxx's but was hoping for a work around. I suppose i can steal that 560ti back from my friend and give him a 7870.

Thanks for the info. News is good whether its good or bad.

HD7xxx Drivers arw coming within the new update of os x tho. 10.8.3 will feature graphics drivers and more.

Well, it is not known if the release version of 10.8.3 will also contain these drivers. We shall have to see if this is still true when Apple finally releases the 10.8.3 update.

Just trying to make this work with what I have and seeing as I have not done this before, if the next release can support it and I have a 4770 laying around, can I just swap them out when it does come out and just update the drivers and/or will the 4770 not work either?

Thanks!
